When the day comes that you hope to fly internationally, outside of the United States, it’s time to apply for the FCC Restricted Radio Operator License. Fear not! The process isn’t as complicated as you’ve likely heard. Obtaining the license is straightforward and only requires that you complete a few online forms and pay a one-time $70 processing fee. The process should take approximately 45 minutes to complete. Follow these simple steps to obtain your license:

Step 1: Register an Account

Step 3: Complete Application and Pay Processing Fee

Once you’ve logged into your FCC ULS portal with your FRN and login creditionals, you can begin starting your FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit (RROP). On the left side panel, click “Apply for New License”.  Select “RR – Restricted Operator” from the option list. Complete the forms through prompt and finish the process by paying the $70 processing fee. After doing so, there may be a short wait for the information to be processes. You will recieve an email notification when your license is ready. From there you can re-login to your portal and will have access to print your FCC license.

If you lose your FCC radio license it is easy to obtain a new copy. By logging into your portal or contacting the FCC directly, you will be able to obtain a new copy.

How long does it take to get an FCC Radio License?

Obtaining an FCC Radio license is a relatively short process. It should take you approximately 45 minutes to complete the online application.  Once submitted, it is typically immediate that you recieve your license though in some cases it may take 1-2 business days if the system is experiencing an outage.
